TOI App for Blackberry

TOI has released a native app for Blackberry.

It doesn’t look like one of those high quality apps like MakeMyTrip. The fonts/font sizes are not set properly – You can set the right font size via the options but the setting is not saved

Other options available in the app

1. Save an article and view saved articles
2. Share an article to Twitter/Facebook
3. Share via Email

In addition to Blackberry, the app is available for iPad/iPhone and Android platform as well.

BlackBerry Messenger version 5.0.2.12 available now

Today our Google group member Kaushal informed us about this latest update to Blackberry Messenger.  This updated is available to only few users as of now and slowly it should be available to everyone.

• More user-friendly wording and organization in menus

BlackBerry Desktop Manager 6.1 coming soon

Looks like a new version of Blackberry Desktop Manager 6.1 is coming soon. BGR revealed this info today.

One of our BlackBerry sources just shot us over some information on the latest version of Desktop Manager, version 6.1. Besides bringing compatibility to upcoming BlackBerry handsets that will run OS 6.1, Desktop Manager 6.1 is also said to bring little enhancements and changes to the desktop application. One noticeable addition we caught? The ability to forget a previously backed up / synced device. See? Still using a BlackBerry has its perks from time to time. Blackberry planning to setup a plant in India?

Latest news says Blackberry may setup a manufacturing plant in India.

According to this  article "India is an important and strategic market for RIM and its exciting and fast-growing mobile sector offers major potential for further expansion. As part of RIM’s strategy in India, the company has been building its resources in order to support the growing opportunities," RIM spokesperson said when asked about plans to set up a plant here.

Canada-based RIM’s Chief Information Officer Robin Bienfait will be in India to meet with major BlackBerry customers as well as a variety of current and prospective business partners, the company said.

"RIM is always evaluating investment opportunities, including manufacturing and logistics, and Robin plans to further explore such possibilities in India during her visit," it added.

The company, however, declined to get into the numbers of how much investment will be made for setting up a manufacturing facility and the volume of handsets to be manufactured, as well as the models.

Google Maps 4.5.3 for Blackberry

Google Maps for Blackberry has been updated to 4.5.3
Unlike the previous version updates, there is no indication as to what is new in this version.

Go ahead and update and if you find something new which was not there in the earlier version, do discuss the same on the forum

Blackberry Messenger 5.0.3 Beta Released

Blackberry Messenger 5.0.3 is released in Blackberry Beta.

The release notes mentions the following as the list of issues fixed between 5.0.1.41 and 5.0.3

• If you are running BlackBerry® 6.0, a cursor might not have appeared when you scrolled through previous messages in a chat.
• If a person invites you to become a contact during a multiperson chat with you, and if you accepted the request, the contact might not have appeared on your contact list.
• If you turned on content protection, when you received a new message, you might have seen a “Content protection is enabled” message.
