well u need to check vodafone site where its mentioned in small letters that youtube will use vodafone live as access point. I have copied and pasted the same below. read the last line.

the website link is Vodafone Blackberry Internet Service

My friend was also very happy after activating his bb service but i warned him upfront about this gimmick of vodafone ppl

Note: <li type="square">Certain applications like YouTube or any other video streaming application uses Vodafone Live! as access point and will be charged @ 10/10KB. These charges are applicable over and above your data plan

Youtube or any streaming videos use Wap Services only be it Vodafone or any other company. For Airtel and others, they dont charge anything extra for it but for Vodafone they have mentioned it in their Website that Vodafone Live charges would be extra.

It is sad to know that you were billed for this but just a bit of checking might have prevented it. And now, make sure that Vodafone Live is deactivated as you dont need it too but unfortunately your Vodafone MMS also gets deactivated and you stop getting/sending any MMS.

If you have Wifi at Home/Office, you can still stream videos there without any charges. In case you do not have Wifi, log on to Vuclip web video search from your Blackberry and see the videos you want just like You tube without any charges.

If the handset has applications which auto refresh /update by connecting through the WAP gateway i.e. Vodafone live!, you will be charged 10p/10KB. The settings for these applications are pre defined on the handset by the manufacturer
Can anyone give me example of such kind of applications? If I use Twitter & FB for Blackberry, will I be charged?

From my personal experience apps like twitter and FB work on BIS so that depends on your plan but app like "Tapatalk" works on VL so it will be charged.

Ok... did some more research and came across this on Vodafone's site:

Will charges be levied even when not connected consciously by using the any data services?
If any online application is running like weather update, stock update, Facebook, twitter etc, then it tries to fetch the information from the server at a regular interval leading to continuous data exchange. This is a unique feature of the application and does not have any relation with the service; here VMC acts only as a connecting media and doesn’t have any control over the functionality. The service does not ask for permission before connecting hence we would not be able to determine if it is connected or not, solely dependent on the device and is an application feature. Hence charges are incurred as per applicable rate in case this services are active in your connection
I have requested for activation of 599 plan. At the same time I had put in a request for deactivation of VL service. VL service has been deactivated but I will still cross check with CC once the 599 plans gets activated. Let's see how it goes...
